GBGB offers a range of training and professional development opportunities designed to underpin the sports welfare initiatives both in kennels and at the track. These programmes are delivered centrally and are designed to complement training activities provided by individual stadia and employers.

An Introduction to Racing
This course is designed for those with less than 3 months industry experience. It comprises a mix of taught sessions and practical tasks the course acts as a basic induction for kennel staff and an overview of GBGB Racing for those not working directly with greyhounds.

 

Principles of Manual Handling
This course addresses the basics of manual handling. It is suitable for all kennel and track staff that are new to the racing world but would be of value by anyone with a specific training need. The course focuses on the types of handling undertaken at tracks and in kennels.

The course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Participants will also receive a GBGB attendance certificate.

 

Emergency First Aid - Appointed Persons
A one-day course tailored to meet the needs of staff working with animals. This course is ideal for those needing to qualify staff to the level of Appointed Persons to take responsibility for a first aid emergency and the first aid box in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations.

The course is also recommended for those staff giving support to First Aiders in larger organisations. On successful completion of the course participants will be awarded an Emergency First Aid certificate valid for 3 years.

 

Track Maintenance and Preparation Seminars
Led by members of the Track Safety Committee these annual seminars are designed for Head Groundsmen and those responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the track. The event will introduce the latest thinking on developing effective strategies for ensuring a safe racing surface and will offer an opportunity for participants to network with colleagues from across the sport.

 

Professional Development for Trainers
GBGB works with leading individuals in the industry to provide professional development events for greyhound trainers. Organised regularly during the year these events are publicised in the racing press and are free to all those holding a GBGB license.

 

Induction training for Vets / Vet placement scheme
These programmes are designed for vets that have an interest but no experience in greyhound racing. The placement scheme is available to students and is publicised through the veterinary colleges whilst the induction course is open to any qualified vet and is publicised through the specialist veterinary press.

 

Customer Service and Sales
Individual programmes are developed for staff working in stadiums based around the National Occupational Standards in Customer Service
